Caño Negro and Baldi hot springs

This morning was a bit more relaxed with a buffet breakfast and an 8.00 departure time from the hotel. Once again on our bus we passed by fields of fruit and vegetables such as yucca, papaya, pineapple, plantains and also fields of rice.

Yesterday, Giovanny told us that our driver had a keen eye and we saw evidence of that today. Several times he spotted wildlife as he was driving and then stopped the bus and backed up for us to take photos. We saw a laughing falcon, a baby sloth in the tree, and a full frown three toed sloth along the roadside. We got out of the bus to see the sloth up close and watch as it very slowly made its way to safety in a tree.

Click HERE to see the sloth slowly moving along the ground, and HERE to see it climbing the tree.

At Cañon Negro we boarded a boat and slowly drove along the riverbanks, taking photos of the many birds, bats, monkeys, and other animals that our driver and Giovanny spotted.
These are bats lined up on a tree on the riverbank.
This lizard is called the Jesus lizard because it can run on top of the water.
This iguana kept an eye on us as our boat passed by.
We saw several monkeys, but we were unsuccessful in locating the albino monkey.

Full crop of bananas
An Anhinga, also called a snakebird because of its long neck.

Cattle along the river

After our lunch at a restaurant in town, Mohit entertained us with a song on his ukulele.

Above are typical homes in Costa Rica - very colorful!

We saw many "sodas" (small restaurants) on our trip back to the hotel.
A small restaurant.
Later in the afteroon, we went to the biggest hot springs in the world with 9 pools and varied degrees of warm water. It was a relaxing two hours, enjoyed by all. If only the US had something similar.
